Volunteering

Home-Start Hampshire in Meon Valley’s home visiting volunteers come from many different backgrounds and vary in age but all are either parents themselves or have parenting experience and are carefully selected for their friendliness and understanding. All volunteers attend a 30 hour preparation course, undergo an enhanced DBS check and provide two references before being matched with a family. They then take their own individual skills and experience to the families they visit. Our volunteers offer their time and commitment and are non-judgemental. If you would be interested to learn more please do use the link below for more information.

Prep Courses for new volunteers are run throughout the year on a regular basis. Please contact the co-ordinators if you would like to be considered for the next course and to talk about all aspects of volunteering for Home-Start Hampshire in Meon Valley.

Meon Valley has a Local Board involving local people from a wide range of backgrounds such as social care, accountancy, human resources, law and small businesses. The main requirements of a trustee is to have a real interest in the work we undertake and a willingness to be actively involved in the running of the Charity. The Trustee Board is responsible for the financial security of the organisation and ensures its strong governance. If you are are able to help us in any way please contact us.

We also have a team of Ambassadors who help to publicise our services around the local area. If you are able to spare a couple of hours a month putting up posters, giving out leaflets, manning a (very) occasional stand, and generally letting people know about the work we do please get in touch, we would love to hear from you.

Volunteer Training

We are looking for more volunteers: Grandparents, Dads and Mums, to join  our next course of preparation

All home-visiting volunteers participate in a 30 hour preparation course before being matched with and introduced to a family needing their support. The training is carried out by our two Co-ordinators, one day (5 hours) a week over a period of 6 weeks. The course ensures that volunteers are prepared for the different situations in which they might find themselves when supporting their family.

Volunteers attend regular supervision with their Co-ordinators and group meetings where they have the opportunity to meet with other volunteers.  There is a small amount of monthly paperwork to be completed and all travel expenses are reimbursed. Home-Start Meon Valley’s volunteers are matched with families who have young children with one child being under the age of 5 years and who need a little support to help them through a stressful time.

Volunteers are asked to visit their family once or twice a week 2-3 hours offering friendship, support and practical help. If you have a few hours a week to spare and you have parenting experience, please call to find out more.

This voluntary work is unpaid but is highly rewarding. Do something new for YOU. You really can make a difference to a family’s life. Volunteers have the opportunity to attend additional courses regularly throughout the year – please come and join us – we really need you and you could help your local community by volunteering for us.
