Home-Start Hampshire’s volunteers understand the challenge of being a parent. All volunteers complete a preparation course, undergo an enhanced DBS check and provide two references before undertaking roles on behalf of Home-Start Hampshire.

There are several ways that you can help Home-Start Hampshire in a voluntary capacity by:

  • supporting a family as a family support volunteer
  • helping in a group
  • joining the Community Team in your local area and help with fundraising activities
  • joining the trustee board
We offer a rolling programme of training for new volunteers depending on individual preference.

For family support and group volunteers, our e-learning course can be completed at any time, at your own pace and is supplemented with a number of in-person sessions (including safeguarding).

We also run regular induction, training and welcome sessions for Community Team volunteers.

If you would like more information or to discuss volunteering opportunities that may suit you, please contact us.  or you can can complete a short online form here and we’ll contact you with the next steps.

Home-Start Hampshire is governed by a professional, skilled trustee board which is made up of local people from a wide range of backgrounds such as social care, health, business, finance, legal, or HR. The main requirements of a trustee are a real interest in the work of the charity and a willingness to be actively involved in all aspects of governance. The trustee board is responsible for the financial security of the organisation, ensures legal compliance and ensures compliance with the Home-Start Quality Assurance System.

Family Support Volunteer, Home-Visiting - All Areas

Our family support volunteers provide emotional and practical support to families on a 1-2-1 basis in the family home. Once matched with a family, the volunteer will visit the family weekly (or sometimes fortnightly) for 2-3 hours, usually for 6-9 months but this can vary depending on the families needs. We provide in-depth training and support to all family support volunteers to help them deliver the best possible services to those who need us.

Family Support Volunteer, Group Work - All Areas

We run range of groups in various locations across the county; they provide families with emotional and practical support and the opportunity to meet others in their community, reducing isolation and loneliness. Groups run weekly and are led by an experienced member of staff, supported by a team of volunteers. Volunteers support weekly, or as part of a small team on a rota basis depending on their own availability.

We provide in-depth training and support to all family support volunteers to help them deliver the best possible services to those who need us.
