An update from our Operations Manager, Amanda Hardacre
We are constantly reviewing the support we can offer to families and adapting to the ever changing Government regulations to ensure we operate both in compliance with these but also ensuring everyone’s safety, families, volunteers and staff. The recent changes to introducing the ‘rule of 6’ has certain exceptions which include charitable and voluntary activities and our insurers have confirmed that our support to families can be considered as ‘work’ within these regulations. This does mean that we are able to offer face to face support to families within their own homes provided that social distancing is maintained at all times, which is a very positive step as the weather declines and outdoor contacts become less viable. However, physical contact continues to be discouraged, therefore support is likely to be only emotional, listening in style, with practical, hands on activities not being permitted.
With regards to group support, given all our groups are run in hired venues and the requirement for cleaning and disinfecting of shared areas and resources would be a considerable burden to the staff and volunteers running these groups, we will continue to hold these either outdoors or virtually until such time as we feel Government regulations have eased sufficiently to allow us to return indoors.
As ever, the situation may change as Government guidelines are updated or should any local restrictions be imposed.
Whilst supporting our families at this time, either remotely or through socially distanced visits, it is vital that we continue to be vigilant and responsive to any safeguarding concerns identified. It is not as easy to pick up concerns when we’re not regularly seeing families in their homes, so please do continue to be mindful in your conversations and contacts with families and speak to your Coordinator if you see, hear or just feel something that doesn’t seem quite right or concerns you. All volunteers should have their safeguarding cards with up to date telephone numbers for local Coordinators and contact details for escalating concerns within the Scheme if you can’t reach your Coordinator. If you have lost or misplaced your card, please do speak to the office who will arrange for a new card to be made available to you.
I would like to take the opportunity to express thanks to everyone involved with Home-Start Hampshire, your ongoing support during these difficult times is greatly appreciated.
